Born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 2000 when he was 14, Ritch currently lives in Markham with his wife Loretta and his daughter Leia. After completing high school in St. Andrew's College and York Mills Collegiate Institute, he graduated from the University of Toronto Scarborough with an Honours Specialist Degree in Mental Health Studies. He also holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Ritch speaks English, Mandarin and his mother tongue Cantonese.

Before running for council, Ritch worked as a radio host, then transitioned to become a news reporter and TV news anchor for Fairchild TV. He hosted their daily evening news program which has a nation-wide audience for more than 100,000 subscribers across Canada. Ritch is a household name known by Chinese families in the GTA area and also Vancouver and Richmond in BC. After more than 15 years of working in the media industry and journalism, he decided to put his name on the ballot and was elected as the Ward 2 Councillor in the 2022 Municipal Election for the City of Markham.

General boundaries: Ward 2 is bounded on the north by the northern boundary of the City, south by Highway 7, west by Highway 404, and east by Warden Avenue.
